Our Founder & Vision

Studio Soo was established in 2017 by Soohyun Kim (Soo) — a visionary, Korean-born artist whose career in photography spans over 25 years. In his early days in South Korea, Soo collaborated with a wide range of creative talents — from musicians and actors to visual artists and writers — capturing evocative portraits and documenting art exhibitions, performances, and installations. These formative experiences nurtured his passion for storytelling through imagery and set the stage for a lifelong commitment to fine art.

After relocating to Chicago in 2012, Soo quickly immersed himself in the vibrant local art community. His journey continued as he furthered his craft through advanced studies and by teaching photography at renowned institutions such as SAIC, UIC, and Saint Xavier University. This blend of hands-on experience and academic insight deepened his understanding of the medium, infusing every project with cultural sensitivity and artistic integrity.

Holding dual MFAs — from Hongik University and the University of Illinois at Chicago — and garnering international awards, Soo’s dedication has not only earned him acclaim but also the green card that affirmed his place as a distinguished artist in the USA. His extensive background in both commissioned and collaborative work uniquely positions him and Studio Soo as leaders in luxury portrait photography and cinematic storytelling.

For those who wish to explore the full breadth of his creative journey, a more comprehensive portfolio is available at www.soohyunkim.com. While this personal website features a wider array of projects — including some that engage with political themes — Studio Soo remains dedicated to offering timeless, artful photography that resonates with every client.
